What is Zcash?

ZCash (ZEC) is a cryptocurrency that started out as a fork of bitcoin and focuses on private transactions in an open blockchain. ZCash originated in 2016 and prioritises anonymity and selectively transparent transactions. ZCash encrypts these transactions with a zero-knowledge proof construction called zk-SNARK.
